Gone too far
Part 3
Justin’s POV
Lawyers & police officers were in & out of Selena’s hospital room all morning. When I had gotten here last night I didn’t get to talk with Selena much before she drifted back to sleep. All I wanted to do was lie in the bed next to her & make her better but it didn’t seem like that would ever happen. With every question the officers asked I could see how painful it was for Selena to think back & try & remember exactly what happened. I listened closely as the question became more about her meet & greet the day of the concert.
“Did you notice any older gentlemen come thru the meet & greet?” an officer asked sitting in a chair to the side of Selena.
“There were a few that came with their children but they didn’t see stranger or anything.” She shrugged a slight wince of pain flashed across her face with the movement.
“You’re sure? No strange talk or questions from them?” the officer pressed further.
Selena thought about it for a minute,
“No, nothing was strange with the men I met.” Selena said surely.
“Why are you asking about the men at the meet & greet.” I blurted out.
The officer turned to look at me sitting on the sofa on the other side of Selena’s bed.
“We are just trying to narrow down if the man had any contact with her before the shooting.” The officer said calmly.
I sat up straighter at his words, “So you think it was a guy that shot her?”
“Yes, we think after he was let out he came straight to where she was & violated the restraining order.”
His words hit me like a ton of bricks & my eyes flashed to Selena’s face & I watched the color drain.
“Him….” Selena whispered slowly turning back to look at the officer, “you think it was him?” she said clearer.
“You think that guy who has been stalking her actually violated the order & came to the concert & shot her?” my voice was laced with confusion, worry & anger.
“That is what we believe right now, we are not able to locate him which is adding to our theory.”
Selena sucked in a breath & I hurried over to her side taking her had in mine rubbing my thumb across the top of her hand.
“We are doing everything we can to find him or to find out who did this, I am very pleased to hear that you will be just fine in the next few days.” The officer said standing up, “we will be in touch.” He smiled & left the room, leaving Selena & I alone.
“I didn’t think he would actually try to kill me.” Selena quietly cried leaning her head back on her pillow closing her eyes causing the tears to stream down her face.
“They will find him & he will never be able to get close to you again.” I soothed as I slowly slid in the bed next to her putting one arm gently over her stomach. There was a long pause from Selena as she tried to get her tears together enough to get words out.
“What if they don’t & he tries again but he succeeds?”
I flinched at her words, the thought breaking my heart in half. I kissed the back of her shoulder & whispered in her ear confidently,
“Things have gone to far already & I will never let anything like this happen ever again.”
Selena’s breathing hiccupped as she tried to control it; we just laid there holding each other as the thoughts of him trying again filled our minds.
